BLADE MediMobility
The Largest Dedicated Air Transporter of Human Organs in the United States
BLADE's MediMobility business partners with hospitals and organ procurement organizations nationwide to provide cost-effective, rapid movement of organs and transplant teams to improve patient outcomes. Rapid and highly coordinated transportation is critical for organ transplantation. BLADE's MediMobility platform consists of:
- One-call solution that provides multimodal logistics across private aircraft, next flight out, helicopters, and ground vehicles
- 24/7 logistics operations center with nationwide reach
- Diverse fleet of ~30 owned and dedicated aircraft
- >30 owned ground vehicles spread across 8 ground hubs across the country
- Proprietary technology platform that coordinates all logistics and chain of custody, providing data tracking and real-time updates to customers
- Organ placement service with a dedicated team of clinical experts providing 24/7 support, overseeing the process from the initial donor organ offer to the recipient's transplant.
BLADE's rapid growth of its MediMobility business started In September 2021 when we acquired Trinity Air Medical, Inc. The combination enabled sizable benefits of scale to our operations, including greater availability, better pricing, and, most importantly, the opportunity to improve patient outcomes. With the power of Trinity, we built the largest point-to-point organ transplant transport service in the United States.
One of our strongest partnerships is with NYU Langone Health, where we arrange and manage on-demand helicopters and jet missions for NYU transplant teams and donor organs. By leveraging our captive Manhattan terminal infrastructure and 24/7 availability of 30 owned and dedicated aircraft, BLADE reduces travel times between NYU Langone and common donor hospitals by up to three hours.
After retrieving organs from donor hospitals, the NYU transport team takes a BLADE jet to the New York area airport, followed by a helicopter to the BLADE East Terminal on East 34th Street in Manhattan, right next to the hospital. This eliminates the need to drive from the airport, which can take an hour or more. Often, we can fly directly by helicopter between the donor hospital’s landing pad and BLADE East Terminal–eliminating the need and cost of a jet altogether and increasing the speed of the movement.
Saving precious minutes, or even hours, is a fundamental tenet of BLADE MediMobility. As Dr. Nader Moazami, MD, Surgical Director for Heart Transplantation at NYU said in a recent press release, "Simply put, this partnership will improve outcomes for transplant patients in New York City."
BLADE's services are also typically much more cost-effective than services previously used by our hospital partners.
NYU Langone is just one example. BLADE's 70+ hospital partners are located throughout the United States. Today, BLADE MediMobility has jet aircraft hubs in 13 locations, reducing transport logistics and flight times and maximizing cost efficiencies for both Blade and our hospital partners.
Beyond the critical logistics and transport service BLADE provides its partner hospitals, our technology platform offers real-time chain-of-custody information, and our hospital dashboards enable informed decisions by providing a comprehensive and organized data exhaust to help drive efficiencies and process improvement for organ and surgical team transport.
